Private Practice

Private Practice is the new solo project from Landis Wine, best known for his work with Richmond bands White Laces and Opin. Built around open-tuned guitars, layered percussion, and subtle electronic textures, Private Practice drifts through hazy, late-night pop that feels equally intimate and expansive. The project began during a stretch of winter storms on the East Coast, when Wine rediscovered an acoustic guitar tuning that sparked an unexpected creative surge. For the first time in more than a decade, he wrote an entire collection of songs on his own, embracing a process that felt both vulnerable and liberating.

Recorded primarily at his studio, the EP reconnects with Wine's early days growing up in Southwest Virginia, experimenting on a four-track recorder and learning to become his own band. Rather than chase perfection, he allowed the songs to remain loose, textured, and unpolished, letting each track evolve on its own terms. The recordings feature a guest appearance from Kelsey Hulvey and were mastered by Jeff Zeigler (The War on Drugs, Cloud Nothings).

“Back in January, when the East Coast got hit with a few waves of ice and snow, I sat down with an open tuning I had stumbled into on my acoustic guitar and wrote an entire batch of new material. I hadn't attempted to do this in over a decade. It felt a little awkward, ungainly, and exposed, but I leaned into the impulse, hunkered down at my studio, and recorded it myself.Growing up in Southwestern Virginia, I spent my teenage years chasing sounds on a four-track, which often required me to be my own band. After years of working with trusted collaborators, I let myself fall back through that portal. I lived with these jams throughout the rest of the winter, letting them get as rangy and ragged as they liked, and stopped trying to polish them. I asked Kelsey Hulvey to scream on a track and shipped the recordings to Jeff Zeigler to master. Now, less than seven months after the idea struck, I'm happy to present Private Practice. A polite container for messy shapes.”
